My New Job at the University of Exeter

I am very pleased to announce officially that I will be joining the University of Exeter from September 2016 as a Lecturer in Classics.

I’m thrilled to be joining such a great department, where I’ll be working with scholars whose work I admire very much. Already everyone has been incredibly friendly and welcoming, and we already have some exciting plans for what I might be teaching. Of course I’ll be sad to leave Cambridge too – but after ten years, it feels like a good time to move on to new things!

I’m aware that I have been very lucky and very privileged in my friends and colleagues. I’d like to thank everyone who chatted to me (online and offline) about Exeter, everyone who took the time to look over my application and talk to me about their past interview experiences, and Steve Joy at the Cambridge Careers Service for his help and advice. I want to do everything I can to reciprocate all the generous help I received – and pay it forward by helping out others with their next job application – so please get in touch if I can be of any help to other ECRs out there. At some point I’ll do a round-up of the blogs I found particularly helpful during this process.

I’d also like to thank the Greek in Italy project, the Classics Faculty at the University of Cambridge, Gonville and Caius College and the British School at Rome for their support over the past three years. In particular, the travel and research opportunities that I’ve had through the Greek in Italy project and the BSR have made all the difference, and have been a huge help in getting my new project off the ground. You’ve all been fantastic, and I’ve made so many lasting friendships in Cambridge and Rome because of the support you provided. [Edited to add: James Clackson, the PI of Greek in Italy, has now written me a lovely send-off blog post too.]

I’ll still be at Cambridge for the rest of the academic year. But in the mean time – please let me know all your favourite places and things to do in Devon!
