As you can tell from the review, I enjoyed this book great deal! It goes into an incredible amount of detail about the Classical allusions in the Harry Potter series – perhaps more detail than was every consciously intended by Rowling herself. The book deals not only with Classical myth, but also with themes from folklore and legends more widely, as well as discussing the language of spells in a lot of detail.
If you have any young, or not-quite-so-young, Potter fans in your life who are also interested in Latin, folklore or ancient myth, I would highly recommend this as an ideal Christmas present. You can buy it online at Amazon.co.uk here.
