Digital and practical epigraphy workshop

Now that we’re well into 2019, some of the events connected to my AHRC fellowship are beginning to take shape. The first of these is the Workshop on Digital and Practical Epigraphy taking place 29th April – 4th May, and generously co-hosted by Gabriel Bodard and the ICS. The aim of this workshop is to teach epigraphy skills in tandem, so that students can see the different strengths of techniques including squeezing, RTI and photogrammetry, and then produce traditional and digital editions of those same texts. Training will be provided by Gabriel Bodard (ICS) and Katherine McDonald (Exeter), with additional training provided by Charlotte Tupman (Exeter), Charles Crowther (Oxford), Valeria Vitale (ICS) and Caroline Barron (Birkbeck) (among others).

None of us knows about all of these techniques – I am particularly excited to learn more about photogrammetry – and none of us has taught a workshop quite like this before. I think this will be a great use of the grant, engaging a whole range of researchers in using epigraphic techniques that they might not have come into contact with before.
